Kent State College of Public Health: Supporting the Future of Community Health Worker Training

In HealthPath's 2021 Deep Investment Partner grant cycle, the Kent State University College of Public Health was awarded $261,000 to expand the impact of Community Health Workers (CHWs) to the Mahoning Valley, Ohio. Their goal was to help improve the health of residents by increasing neighborhood-based community health and outreach services such as chronic disease screening and prevention.

Through their efforts and partnerships, the College of Public Health Community Health Worker Training Program was able to train 30 CHWs, increasing the workforce in the Mahoning Valley.

“HealthPath Foundation of Ohio has made an indelible impact on the health of the Mahoning Valley and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to fully train 30 new CHWs through this grant, bringing 3,900 hours of service to the community,” says Sonia Alemagno, Ph.D., dean, College of Public Health.
